Back from Baltimore
My trip to Baltimore for Bouchercon was swell. No pitchforks and torches accompanied my departure, although when I arrived the media was there to cover my crusade. I had a brief sit-down with Christian Schaffer from WMAR TV (last month, they ran this story . Schaffer wrote this account and Baltimoreans were treated with my famous beard-made-for-radio on their television sets Thursday night:
Laura Vozzella also joined the fray in print with this Baltimore Sun column on Friday morning.
The Edgar Allan Poe panel I moderated on Friday was a great success. I heard lots of good feedback over the weekend. Louis Bayard, Dan Stashower and Shelley Costa Bloomfield were all at the top of their game discussing Poe's importance to the mystery genre and his never-ending relevance to American culture. The Baltimore Sun also sent a couple reporters, Nancy Johnston and Dave Rosenthal to cover the panel (well, they were covering the entire convention and have a great series of posts about it on their Read Street blog). They shot some video of the Poe panel and if that makes it online, I'll post a link. Peter Rozovsky wrote about it on his blog, Detectives Beyond Borders. I'll post some more about the conference later.
